Milestone 8: The End

After two years of work I have finally completed my EPQ - at the end of it I have successfully made two fully finished scenes of my documentary and a ten minute short film I made with the BFI. I have looked over my initial goals and how well I have achieved them:

How to write a compelling screenplay - I have succeeded at this goal as I have written multiple compelling screenplays for this project, all of which have steadily increased in quality as I have progressed

How to direct a film within a certain period - This goal did not entirely get accomplished: as while I managed to accomplish all of my pre-production sections inside of the allocated time, I very much fell short on the filming front which carried on far longer than intended

How to craft bold and unique shots for my film - This goal was certainly accomplished as all 3 of my finished projects contain bold and striking cinematography which has improved over the course of my project

How to hire out music to use in my film - This goal did not get accomplished in the way I thought it would be - instead I learned to use open source and free to use songs in my projects instead of exclusively hiring ones

However all of these aims and more were accomplished in the BFI movie I made - which was fully realized and even screened on a cinema screen.

Overall, while this project did not pan out in the way I thought it would, I would say the lessons I have learnt and the portfolio evidence I have created are more than valuable enough to have made this a more successful EPQ then i could have ever asked for

Movie Funding - The Mighty Creatives

 Over the course of this project I have realized I may need to acquire additional funding and support. To this end I have acquired a £500 grant from The Mighty Creatives fund. This fund includes: the £500 bursary to spend on items like cameras, microphones, editing software etc. as well as monthly 1 on 1 sessions with a Creative Coach who will guide me and give advice on my project as well as webinars and project management guidance sessions about my project. The creative coach is an expert in the field of film and cinematography and so has been able to use his expertise to scrutinize my work and help to improve it with his expertise  Overall this fund will be very useful as not only will it be able to bankroll my production but also be able to offer opinions and advice on how it is progressing and what I can do to better it

Core brand proposition

 I would like to do my EPQ project on directing, acting and screenwriting - all of which building up to film production. This is because it is my personal aspiration to become and actor-director-screenwriter in the movie business. To accomplish and train for this dream I will be making my first film as my EPQ, for this I will need to learn: How to write a compelling and full-length screenplay. How to direct a film within a certain period - for me this is the 6 weeks I have available to film within How to act an interesting character in a film How to craft bold and unique shots for my film. Milestone 5: Documentary

 Over the six-weeks holiday, the worst came to pass - My friend's farm burnt down due to the UK heatwaves. As a result I had no location on which I could make my movie and as a result I was not able to film my movie in the allotted time period. This will not be the end of the project however, i have decided to take my year of experiences and training that i have given myself for this project and channel it into helping future young filmmakers who will one day be in my position while making their first movie and dealing with how difficult it is To this end I have decided to remake my film as a combination piece - half documentary and half art-film detailing my inspiration behind making my first movie and my struggles to get it produced.
